Training – Key Management Skills for Leaders, 7 October 2021

Emerging leaders have a lot on their plate;

influencing and impressing up the line, down the line and cross department, not to mention relating vision to tasks and outcomes to objectives. Having sound management competencies underpinning your leadership skills is invaluable, yet many leaders find themselves never having found the time to get some of the basics under their belt.

This session is for those new to a leadership role who would like to explore their management competencies and ensure they are doing the doing of management as well as the being of leadership. We will explore good practice in the following areas with opportunity to discuss, reflect and action plan for development.

Management Versus Leadership – what am I meant to be (doing) now?

• Roles, Responsibilities, Skills and Qualities of Managers and Leaders

People and Performance – what are they meant to be doing and how do I ensure it happens?

• Making work and targets meaningful

Communication and Engagement

• Management styles to motivate, support and challenge

Confidence, credibility and assertiveness frequently come up as topics for discussion. Throughout the session we will keep an eye to these aspects of managing and leading others.

This session will be delivered by Cathy Shimmin, Senior Training Manager & Performance Coach for the Directory of Social Change
