CICs, CIOs etc – Legal Structures for Community Organisations, 30 September

This session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) legal structure, including the differences between a CIO and a Community Interest Company (CIC), and how to convert from a CIC to a CIO.

It will look at issues such as:

  • the differences between a CIO and CIC
  • pros and cons of charity registration
  • how to decide which legal structure is appropriate
  • CICs: pros and cons
  • how to set up a CIC
  • CIOs: pros and cons
  • CIOs: ‘association’ and ‘foundation’ models
  • how to set up a CIO and demonstrate your charitable objectives effectively
  • the process for converting to a CIO from another structure e.g. CIC
