Charity and Not-for-Profit Organisations – How to choose the legal structure

Date: Monday 10 June, 17:30 – 19:30

Led by Tim Smith of GSFW Solicitors, this session will provide the opportunity to learn more about legal structures for your organisation, including the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) structure and a Community Interest Company (CIC).

The session will cover:

  • Overview of organisational structures
  • Pros and cons of Charity status
  • Factors in choosing between different organisational structures
  • How to set up a CIO and demonstrate your charitable objectives effectively
  • How to set up a CIC
  • Overview of the roles of Trustees / Directors / Members
  • Personal Liability

This course is valuable to local organisations setting up or starting out, or would like to move from constituted group to a more formal legal structure.

Budgeting Workshop

Topic: Developing and managing a budget that works for you and your funders

Bring your questions on budgets to charity accountant Darren Harding.   Hear about creating budgets for funding bids, identifying where expenditure should go and how particular roles or services are funded.

Trustee and Leadership Network

Topic: Roles and Responsibilities of being a Trustee

Charity lawyer Moira Protani will give a briefing on the regulatory role of the Charity Commission, and explore the responsibilities of charity trustees regarding reporting and compliance with charity legislation. The Governance Network is open to all community and voluntary organisations across Adur and Worthing, Brighton and Hove.
