Welcome to our new chair of trustees
December saw the final Community Works Board meeting of the year. And what a year it was – long serving CEO Sally Polanksi left to be replaced by Jess Sumner who will already be familiar to many member organisations as a long serving member and rep. We hosted our first AGM in Shoreham in November and were delighted to welcome Bill Demel Director of Development of GuildCare to the Board. As our first Trustee specifically from Adur and Worthing, Bill brings some great new insights into our work.
I was delighted to be elected as Chair of the Board following the decision of Ceri Davies to stand-down. Ceri’s contribution cannot be under-stated as she lead the Board and organisation through the transition from CVSF to Community Works, supported our new work in Adur and Worthing and brought great energy, clarity and sense of purpose to the Trustee group as we welcomed the new CEO into her role. She’s also been hilarious at the AGM’s. So big boots to follow.
Having served as a Board member for the last 4 years I am thrilled to have the opportunity to take the Chair’s role, to support the organisation to make sure that the Voluntary & Community Sector continues to have the biggest positive impact locally and to being both a resource to and a voice for our amazing member organisations across the area.
The next couple of years look like they are going to remain uncertain politically and economically so in many respects the role of the Voluntary Sector will become ever more important. We’ll be working to make sure our organisation remains inclusive, vibrant, valued and sustainable. Community Works as a member’s lead infrastructure organisation will play a vital role in providing leadership within the sector as we navigate these choppy waters.
