Transport Survey

Transport Survey

We worked with Lifelines to survey 249 older people to find out about their use of activities and transport in Brighton and Hove.

Our findings showed that 47% of people who didn’t attend any activities said it was because it was too hard to get there.

This was because of:

  • difficulty walking (58%)
  • taxi’s being too expensive (40%)
  • and not feeling confident to use the buses (31%)

Some ideas about what would encourage people to attend activities were

  • “If there were activities closer to where I live, I don’t want to have to travel too far” (32%)
  • “Someone to give me a lift” (29%)
  • “If they could use the Community Transport Minibus” (28%)

We’re following up with participants and a cross sector transport group looking at finding solutions to the problems raised in the survey.

“Bus journeys are getting hair raising, they don't stop for long and go too fast, especially around corners, and they don't stop long enough to get on and off ”
