Resources are essential for all community groups and voluntary organisations. They come in a number of different forms, including:
Fundraising is an ongoing concern for most and can present multiple challenges. We’re here to talk through any fundraising challenges that you’re facing and offer advice on steps to overcome them. If you’re starting on your fundraising journey, your first steps will involve:
- developing a clear idea of what you want to achieve with your project
- being certain that your project is needed
- knowing how much your project will cost
- creating a clear plan as to how you’re going to raise those costs
There are lots of resources that you can use to help you with your planning. We recommend the Resource Centre website as an excellent starting point.
How we can help you
As well as helping you plan your funding bid, we can help you to increase your chances of success when you’re ready to submit it.
Our read a funding bid service gives constructive critique on funding bids that are 90% bid ready. Your bid will benefit from a fresh and neutral pair of eyes. It will be read by one of our volunteers or staff who are experienced in fundraising. We’ll give you written feedback on your bid which will highlight its strengths, any glaring mistakes or omissions, and give you any suggestions that may strengthen the final submission and your chances of success.
Our read a funding bid service requires bids to be given to us at least 10 working days before the bid’s submission deadline, to allow us enough time to read and comment on your bid.
Whilst we endeavour to provide this service at all times, it is largely offered by volunteer bid-readers. This means that having the capacity, and finding a suitable volunteer to read your bid, may not always be possible and cannot be guaranteed.
“With the read a funding bid service it has been possible to improve our funding bid to the big lottery. It probably would not have been successful without this service.” Caroline Jurdon, Homeopathy in the Sussex Community
Our other fundraising support
We can help you develop large bids through our charged-for consultancy service. We can also put you in contact with other organisations, with which you may want to achieve your fundraising goals in partnership with, through consortia or another approach.

“Community Works gave us much needed support to partnership bidding for local contracts. As a result of their help, we were able to secure key funding to enable us to continue an already established service.” Helen Jones, MindOut LGBTQ Mental Health Project
