Know My Neighbour is a collaborative project between a number of organisations and individuals across Brighton and Hove. The aim of the project is to help socially-isolated people to increase their social capital by getting to know their neighbours and connecting with local organisations.

Know My Neighbour needed help to develop their website so they could use it more effectively and spread the word about the project. We helped them to find the professional skills they needed via our business skills volunteering programme, which matches volunteers from businesses with local community-based initiatives in need of their skills.

We matched Know My Neighbour with volunteers from Amex who developed a new, professional website which is easy to use and keep updated. The website is now the main source of information about the project and it’s campaigns. It also acts as a local resource on all things related to neighbourliness, and includes links to agencies offering help to people who may be concerned about a neighbour, and to local services and events.

Amex’s help was vital in achieving the professional look and feel needed for the new website. It has helped to launch Know My Neighbour into the next stage of their development.

The new website was built as a result of the structures and networks we have put in place, which enables us to lever in this kind of help for local initiatives. The support brokered by us has helped Know My Neighbour to strengthen their project, so they can carry on helping some of the city’s most vulnerable residents and making it possible for residents to get involved in helping their neighbour and reducing social isolation

As well as helping Know My Neighbour to develop a new website, we’ve also supported them in other ways. We provided them with free fundraising support which helped them to secure initial funding for the project. We’ve also been involved in the steering group for the project, and have supported them to raise the profile of the project through our own communications and networks.

“Without your help we wouldn't have been able to change our website which was not user friendly. We did not have the skills in house for web development and did not have the funds to outsource. We now have a website which looks great and we're really pleased with it. You helped us to make our website both user friendly for those visiting it and for us keeping it up-to-date.”
